Why this recipe

The gentlest recipe — designed for seniors and sensitive dogs.

Turkey is mild and easily digestible — a great alternative to chicken for dogs that need a break. Turmeric contains curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory that supports joint mobility and may help reduce chronic inflammation associated with aging or arthritis.

Best for senior dogs, dogs with sensitive guts or IBS, dogs with chronic inflammation or arthritis, and dogs recovering from illness. The combination of mild protein and supportive spices makes this the easiest recipe on the system.

Ingredients

Heads up: all ingredient weights below are raw — what you buy and cook. Cooking and draining shrinks the batch, so the cooked amount you feed (shown in the scaler) is less than the total raw weight.

The cleanest of the original recipes. Psyllium husk and kelp powder were removed (the premix carrier has inulin, and the premix has defined iodine), and three oils were consolidated to just olive oil. Turkey at 7% fat doesn't need flax — the premix's DHA handles omega-3.

How to cook it

  1. Cook the quinoa first per packet (1:2 with water, 15 minutes). Set aside.
  2. Brown the turkey mince in a dry pan 8–10 minutes.
  3. Steam the butternut, broccoli and carrot until tender, then wilt the spinach through.
  4. Stir the turmeric through the warm mixture along with the olive oil — turmeric is fat-soluble and needs the oil to be bioavailable, which is why it goes in at this stage.
  5. Combine with the quinoa and cool to warm (not hot — heat destroys some vitamins).
  6. Stir in the premix until evenly mixed.
  7. Portion into daily containers. Refrigerate up to 4 days, freeze the rest.
Talk to your vet first if: Your dog has blood-clotting disorders (turmeric is a mild blood thinner), is on prescription anti-inflammatories, or is having upcoming surgery.

Swaps & substitutions

Same-weight swaps that keep the recipe balanced. Do not swap the protein — each recipe's premix dose and fat balance is calibrated to its specific meat.

Butternut squashsweet potato, pumpkin, or parsnip — same weight (150 g)
Broccolicauliflower or cabbage — same weight (80 g)
Baby spinachkale (de-stemmed) or silverbeet — same weight (60 g)
Quinoacooked white or brown rice — same cooked weight (50 g)
Olive oilavocado oil — same volume (5 mL). Not coconut oil.

Oils: measure in mL and stir into cooled food with the premix — never while hot (heat damages the omega-3 and the fat-soluble vitamins).

⚠ Never add these — toxic to dogs

Onion, garlic, leek, shallot, chives · grapes, raisins, sultanas · chocolate & cocoa · xylitol (in some peanut butters) · macadamia nuts · avocado flesh, skin & pit · cooked bones of any kind · processed/deli meats. These cause serious harm even in small amounts — keep them out of every batch.
